Groom
Shiny coats start in the bowl. The fats, proteins and simple routines that keep puppy fur soft and glowing.
A dull coat is very often a diet story before it is a shampoo story. Puppies building skin and fur need quality animal protein, the right balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fats, and steady meals rather than a constantly topped-up bowl. When families switch a scruffy pup to a measured, complete puppy food, the mirror-shine usually follows within six weeks.
Three habits that matter most
- Feed a complete puppy food matched to expected adult size — large-breed pups need controlled calcium.
- Add oily fish or a vet-approved omega oil twice a week for skin and coat condition.
- Brush for two minutes daily — it spreads natural oils better than any bath can.
One caution: more supplements is not more love. Overdosing vitamins, especially A and D, harms growing bones. If the coat stays dull despite good food and brushing, that is a vet conversation, not a shopping trip — skin is often the first place thyroid or allergy trouble shows.
